Dakota Fence, a family-owned business spanning three generations, was founded in 1972 in a backyard garage. Over the decades, it has grown into a leading provider of fencing and related products, with offices across North Dakota in Fargo, West Fargo, Bismarck, Minot, and Williston, as well as in Brooklyn Park and Rosemount, MN.
The company’s success in the 1970s led to the creation of multiple companies under the DFC Company umbrella. These include Dakota Playground, 3D Specialties, Sign Solutions USA, Park & Play USA, Town & Country Fence, Dakota Unlimited, International Security Products, and DFC Property Management. DFC Company sells and installs all types of fencing, traffic control equipment, highway guardrails, commercial playgrounds, park site amenities, signs, and more.
In 2015, Joe Currier became President and CEO of DFC Company. He now steers the business alongside his siblings John Currier and Amy Mickelson. Despite its growth, DFC Company remains a family business committed to serving its communities. Dakota Fence and its sister companies have received numerous awards, including “Best in Fence” in the Fargo-Moorhead area in the 2022-23 “Locals Love Us” competition. They have also been named one of United Way’s 2024 Top 50 Generous Workplaces and received BizLibrary’s 2023 Best in the Biz award for their DFC Academy Learning Management System.
At Dakota Fence, community involvement is a part of who they are. The Giving Committee allocates funds to local nonprofits, while the True Blue Committee shares volunteer opportunities and plans internal events. Every full-time employee receives volunteer hours and donations to the United Way are matched by ownership.
