Face of Getaway Destinations: Twin Cities Gateway

///

President & CEO Al Stauffacher & Marketing Director Lisa Berkas

Just north of Minneapolis and St. Paul, the Twin Cities Gateway represents 11 cities— Anoka, Arden Hills, Blaine, Coon Rapids, Fridley, Ham Lake, Lino Lakes, Mounds View, New Brighton, Ramsey, and Shoreview. It’s your year-round destination for sports, events, and family fun.

At the center is the National Sports Center in Blaine. It’s the world’s largest amateur sports facility with:

  • 50+ multi-use fields
  • The USA CUP, the biggest youth soccer tournament in the Western Hemisphere
  • The NSC Super Rink, the largest ice arena on earth
  • A stadium, an 18-hole golf course, and indoor training areas

This draws millions annually. But it’s not just about big venues. Gateway communities offer biking trails, parks, local breweries, and attractions like Bunker Beach Water Park.

Leading the charge is President & CEO Al Stauffacher. He joined the organization in 2016, became Executive Director in 2021, and has been a driving force in sports tourism. He’s earned national recognition and currently chairs the Minnesota Sports Alliance. Outside work, Al plays broomball and golf and serves as Governor of the American Broomball Alliance.

Marketing Director Lisa Berkas brings award-winning tourism expertise. She’s known for her creative campaigns and community involvement. Lisa was named an Honorary Commodore of the Minneapolis Aquatennial Organization for her volunteer work.

Twin Cities Gateway doesn’t just promote—it invests. Each year, it awards over $100,000 in community grants and $5,000 in regional event funding. These grants boost local economies, support events, and improve public spaces.

Whether you’re planning a tournament or a weekend away, Twin Cities Gateway offers the access, amenities, and local flavor to make it easy.
