CEO Erin Shapiro

Erin Shapiro has held museum leadership roles across the country. Her passion for art began during her childhood when she was inspired by visits to NYC museums. With an education from Hamilton College and an MFA in Sculpture from Cranbrook Academy of Art, Erin’s career has included positions at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History and Springfield Museum of Art.

She has also served at the Honolulu Museum of Art, the Taubman Museum of Art and the Hawaiian Mission Houses Historic Site and Archives. Now, as the director and CEO of Plains Art Museum in Fargo, Erin leads an institution known for its commitment to community engagement, accessibility, and the celebration of diverse artistic voices.

The museum offers world-class exhibitions, hands-on art-making opportunities, and educational programs and is without question a cultural cornerstone in the region.
