In 2018, First International Bank & Trust (FIBT) acquired a local, Fargo-based ACH and credit card payment processor—a service now known as Kotapay. The name Kotapay was chosen based on FIBT’s connection to North Dakota and their sense of pride in the northern prairie. They wanted to embrace this new beginning by taking all that is great about their company and launch with a name that allowed them to grow beyond traditional electronic funds transfer services.
