Prairie Winds Staff & Doctors, & Dr. Dan Burchill (Not Pictured) At Prairie Winds Veterinary Center, exceptional care begins with an exceptional team. Led by owner Alicia Wisnewski, DVM, the Fargo practice has built its reputation on compassion, advanced training, and a deeply personal approach to veterinary medicine. Dr. Wisnewski’s calling began on her family farm near Lidgerwood, where she cared for injured and sick animals from an early age. After completing her veterinary degree at Iowa State University in 2000, she gained experience in mixed-animal practice, education, ophthalmology, acupuncture, dentistry, and rehabilitation therapy. She opened Prairie Winds in 2012 with a vision for a hospital centered on teamwork, lifelong learning, mental well-being, and excellence in care. Today, the 22-member team includes three veterinarians with a combined 80 years of experience, seven licensed veterinary technicians, skilled assistants, client service professionals, and groomers. Together, they provide full-service general veterinary care with advanced capabilities in ophthalmology, orthopedics, dentistry, and rehabilitation therapy. Dr. Alicia earned her Certified Canine Rehabilaitation Therapist Credentials in 2024. Services include underwater treadmill therapy, cold laser treatments, nutritional counseling, joint therapies, orthopedic surgery, senior-pet care, and low-stress grooming. Nearly half of the practice’s patients are seniors, making mobility support, pain management, and quality-of-life planning especially important. The team has even treated zoo animals, including wolves, red pandas, and Pallas cats. Prairie Winds also emphasizes each patient’s emotional comfort daily. The team uses thoughtful communication, individualized treatment plans, and low-stress handling to create positive experiences for pets and their families. That commitment has earned Prairie Winds significant community recognition, including the FMWF Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year award in 2018. Through rescue support, community wellness clinics, charitable fundraising, and specialized care close to home, Prairie Winds continues to live its motto: “Your Other Family Doctor.” Prairie Winds Veterinary Center 5370 51st Ave S Fargo, ND 58104 (701) 356-5600 prairiewindsvet.com
